AICLA opens award entries; membership hits record

The Australasian Institute of Chartered Loss Adjusters (AICLA) says members will this week be invited to apply for the 2023 Carey Bird Scholarship, while entries for this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award are now open.

Scholarship applicants are to submit a report and show their knowledge and expertise on a Building Construction Dispute claims scenario that has been written by Charles Taylor Brisbane Executive adjuster Bill Clarke.

The award was created in 2013 in honour of Marsh employee and AICLA member Carey Bird, who died in the 2011 Christchurch earthquakes.

"This scholarship honours the great work, dedication and passion displayed by loss adjusters, I encourage all to take part,” AICLA President Glyn Lloyd said.

AICLA will hold its annual meeting in Brisbane on October 26, where the tenure of Mr Lloyd – the first President to serve a third term – will come to an end. Mr Lloyd says membership goals have been surpassed since he started as president in October 2020.

A monthly record of 33 new members joined in June and another 16 in July, capping rapid increase growth in membership over the past three years.

“One of the goals I set was to increase membership to the magical figure of 1000. I am delighted that current membership of AICLA now stands at 1120,” Mr Lloyd said. Outgoing CEO Tony Libke continues in his role and is mentoring his son, Adrian Libke, as a potential candidate to be his successor.

AICLA’s Lifetime Achievement Award, in its second year, recognises the contributions of “longstanding loss adjusters who have given back to the profession over an extended period of time,” and will be officially presented at upcoming events. Inaugural winners were Crawford & Company’s Chan Hwee Seng and Sedgwick Australia’s Tony Morgan.

The Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance (ANZIIF) and AICLA will host their annual Claims Convention in Sydney on September 28 at Sofitel Sydney Wentworth, the 16th edition of the event, with the theme “Insurance Claims – Proactivity in Reactive Situations”.

AILCA will also be holding upcoming events across multiple Australian cities, ending with its Victorian Division’s annual award ceremony on December 14.
